  • Each computer must have minimum connection speed of 80kbps down and 40kbps up.
  • Each teacher or tutoring computer must have a connection speed of 1Mbps down and up.

Recommended

  • For every 30 students using the lab simultaneously, the connection should support 4Mbps down and 2Mbps up during class time.
  • For every 30 students using the lab simultaneously, there must be at least one router with a minimum rate of 36Mbps.
  • Each computer should have connection speed of 175kbps down and 80kbps up.
  • Each teacher or tutoring computer must have a connection speed of 1Mbps down and up.

Network Settings
  • There should be no traffic modification between the user and web server. Antivirus, adware, web security, spam control or any other security device, if used, must be current and configured to be aware of the Reasoning Mind environment and tool.
  • There should be no traffic shaping or filtering of traffic to or from the site.
  • A caching proxy is recommended. But Cache-Control HTTP Headers must be enabled.
  • Wireless networks require special validation and approval for use with Reasoning Mind.

Maintenance
  • As new versions of software are released, Reasoning Mind will inevitably need to change system requirements to keep up with these changes. Simply keeping your computers and software up-to-date should generally keep your school in compliance with any changing Reasoning Mind requirements. When requirements are changed, local IT personnel should work with Reasoning Mind to update school computers and ensure that your school is able to continue using Reasoning Mind without any interruptions. Typically, Reasoning Mind tries to make such changes to the requirements over the summer and to provide as much lead time as possible before these changes are required.
  • If there is scheduled maintenance to a school’s network, or IT Infrastructure that impacts the delivery of the Reasoning Mind application, the school’s IT personnel should notify Reasoning Mind at least one week in advance. This includes but is not limited to: network switches, network routers, systems the students and teacher use to access Reasoning Mind, proxy server, anti-virus, pop-up blockers, content blockers, whitelist, blacklist, firewall, personal firewall, wireless routers, wireless switches, and network cabling.
  • If there is unscheduled downtime to the school’s network, the school’s IT personnel should notify Reasoning Mind as soon as possible if there is continued disruption to the delivery of Reasoning Mind. All changes to lab systems and network infrastructure must follow the same requirements as listed above.

Best Practices
  • Connection quality is critical for running Reasoning Mind. Using LAN is strongly preferred to Wi-Fi.
  • To prevent class interruptions when computers are accidentally turned off, if laptops are used, Reasoning Mind recommends that laptops are configured so that power button, sleep button and the lid do not shut down the computer.
  • Having the latest version of the Adobe Flash player is recommended.
