In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, we are spotlighting a few of our favorite teachers. Today, it’s Ms. Cabra-Gonzalez. Seeing her students’ sense of accomplishment is what keeps Ms. Cabra-Gonzalez motivated and passionate about her job. She faces unique challenges as a bilingual teacher and understands the need for each of her students to be proficient in language and math.
“I had great teachers who made a difference in my life and I want my students to have the same opportunity and enjoy learning math,” she said.
Ms. Cabra-Gonzalez has excelled in the Reasoning Mind classroom. She has pioneered new motivational strategies with her students and takes every opportunity to remind them that they can accomplish anything if they work hard and stay focused on their goals. Her motivation strategies include the following:
- Using real-world examples students face every day to illustrate the math problems
- Arranging for students to work in teams to maintain a fun and competitive atmosphere
As a result of Ms. Cabra-Gonzalez’s motivational strategies and dedication, her students have been very successful with Reasoning Mind this year. The majority of her students are on track to master the fourth-grade curriculum, and several have already moved on to fifth-grade material.
“I believe it is critical is to always be encouraging and helpful, reminding them that they can do anything if they set their minds to it,” she said.
Teachers like Ms. Cabra-Gonzalez set students up for success, and we thank her for all of her hard work. Stay tuned for more profiles of teachers this whole month by keeping our blog bookmarked, watching out for us on Facebook, and following us on Twitter.
