Bruce R. Bilger

Bruce Bilger joined Lazard Frerès & Co. LLC in 2008 as managing director, chairman and head of Global Energy, and co-head of the Southwest Investment Banking region. He recently became a senior advisor. He continues to be active in providing financial advice on mergers and acquisitions, financings, and restructurings, particularly in the energy industry.

Prior to joining Lazard, Mr. Bilger was a partner at the law firm of Vinson & Elkins LLP, where he was head of its 400-plus-attorney Energy Practice Group and co-head of its 175-plus-attorney corporate and transactional practice. During his 30-year legal career with Vinson & Elkins, Mr. Bilger’s practice consisted primarily of domestic and international business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, international infrastructure development projects, project finance, and other corporate transactions, particularly in the energy industry. He has handled some of the most notable and challenging energy industry transactions in recent years, including numerous transactions of over $1 billion.

Mr. Bilger has been a frequent lecturer and author on energy, mergers and acquisitions, finance, restructuring, and corporate and international topics. He has been recognized in many surveys and publications as one of the leading energy and corporate lawyers both nationally and internationally. In 2007, he received more nominations than any other lawyer in the world in Euromoney’sGuide to the World’s Leading Energy and Natural Resource Lawyers.

Active in the community, Mr. Bilger is or has been a board or committee member with numerous charitable and civic organizations, including the Greater Houston Partnership, the Greater Houston Community Foundation, Texas Children’s Hospital, Asia Society Texas Center, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, St. John’s School, Dartmouth College, and the University of Virginia. With four sons, he has coached about 30 athletic teams, from Little League baseball to church league basketball to community football. He is also an active member of the River Oaks Country Club and The Coronado Club.

Mr. Bilger graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College in 1973. He received a Master of Business Administration and a law degree from the University of Virginia in 1977.

He has been married for over 30 years to Carole Bilger. They have four sons: Bruce, Michael, David, and Richard.
