The next pilot project will involve 1,500-2,000 middle school students, and will take place over the course of several years, commencing in 2005. By then, Reasoning Mind aims to develop a full curriculum for middle school math, complete with a vast array of theory material, tens of thousands of problems, and a powerful expert system capable of personalizing instruction to the needs of every student; the flexibility of the next system will be unparalleled. In addition, the new system will feature dozens of interactive and multi-user problem solving games, which will act as an incentive for students to keep up with their peers in their studies, and will create environments suitable to the development of vital skills, such as teamwork; the games will also encourage students to develop good intellectual habits, like thoroughness and persistence.

Another major innovation of the next system is a high degree of automation of various tasks formerly done manually. For example, tutors will be automatically matched with students in need of lessons, and the system will generate automatic responses to many of the messages that students will write to the RM genie. Moreover, there will be a vast array of searching and reporting tools, allowing tutors and teachers to quickly and efficiently learn about any student’s state of knowledge and history of study.
