Summary

The Director of Talent Development (DTD) oversees recruiting (at all levels of seniority) as well as working with managers to facilitate current Reasoning Mind employees’ professional growth. The DTD manages a staff, initially of one full-time person and several part-time people (but likely to grow with time) and is responsible for talent development issues both in the US and in Reasoning Mind’s Moscow office.

The Director of Talent Development reports to the Senior Vice President.

What does this job entail?

On the recruiting front:

  • Working with senior management to design new positions and make job descriptions
  • Overseeing Reasoning Mind's entry-level recruiting campaign, which includes maintaining a presence on dozens of top campuses, sourcing and managing on-campus recruiters, and interviewing applicants
  • Overseeing the early-career recruiting campaign, which targets graduating PhD students and individuals with several years of work experience
  • Recruiting for mid-career and senior positions, primarily through extensive networking and targeting passive job seekers
  • Developing effective interview procedures; interviewing and hiring
  • Managing a full-time Talent Development Associate

On the staff development front:

  • Training staff on project management, personnel management, workplace norms, holding effective meetings, and other such topics
  • Working with managers to design and monitor effective individual growth plans
  • Helping mentor staff
  • Managing employee relations; resolving staff conflicts
  • Participating in the design of Reasoning Mind's evaluation program; administrating the program
  • Designing compensation packages
  • Working to build and communicate organizational culture (through events, information-sharing meetings, and other methods)
  • Building staff morale and motivation

What background is required?

A successful DTD will likely have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher; PhD, JD, or MBA preferred
  • Seven or more years of work experience
  • Three or more years of personnel management experience, overseeing teams of 4 or more people
  • A strong network of prospective hires
  • Experience with recruiting and/or staff development

Where is the job based?

The job is based in Houston, Texas. Occasional travel (to Moscow, various college campuses throughout the states, and various Reasoning Mind branch offices) up to 10% of the time would be very helpful, but is not required.
