There were several goals set prior to beginning the pilot project:
- To show that the conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts, logical reasoning skills, and solid computational skills can and should be developed simultaneously.
- To demonstrate that all students in America could reach a proficiency level in mathematics if the instruction was carried out properly.
- To show that such instruction – when implemented through a solid methodology, uniting automated computer teaching with help from qualified tutors – could be effective in terms of the required investment.
- To demonstrate that this instruction could be delivered remotely over the Internet.
- To demonstrate that if mathematics is taught properly, it can be rewarding and fun, and that students attitudes towards the discipline will improve significantly.
