In 2002-2003, Reasoning Mind carried out a pilot project, entitled “A Web-Based Environment for Learning Math in Middle School.” In this project, RM created a prototype version of the system; then, fifty students from two Texas schools worked in the prototype, solving problems, reading theory material, playing interactive games and attending virtual classrooms. The results of the project were remarkable – only one semester of instructional intervention had profound effects on the math achievement of students, both from an inner city school in a disadvantaged neighborhood and from one of the strongest intermediate schools in Texas.
The project has been statistically analyzed, and much interesting information has come of it. For more detailed information about Reasoning Mind’s first pilot project, go to Research and Development, where among other things you can find a comprehensive external statistical evaluation and an internal report with anecdotal evidence.
